Ingredients

  • 2 lb chicken pieces (thighs and breasts work equally well)
  • ½ cup honey
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp ginger powder
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Method

  1. Pat chicken pieces dry with paper towels and season generously with salt and black pepper on both sides. This step ensures proper browning and develops the best flavor foundation for your dish.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Sear chicken for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown but not cooked through. Remove to a plate and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant and golden. Combine honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger powder, and red pepper flakes in a bowl, then pour into the skillet with garlic.
  4. Return chicken pieces to the skillet and add chicken broth, stirring gently to coat in the sticky honey garlic chicken crowd recipe sauce. Simmer for 8-10 minutes until chicken reaches 165°F internally and the sauce reduces slightly.
  5. Mix cornstarch and water together until completely smooth, then slowly pour into the simmering skillet while stirring constantly. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens to a glossy consistency that clings to each piece beautifully.
  6. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed, adding more salt or red pepper flakes to suit your preference. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for color and crunch.
